Our major 2025 goal!

One of our major goals in 2025 is to fully renovate our cottage. We call it our Beach House. It started off when we purchased it in 2007 as a basic cabin. The interior was open stud construction. After white washing the interior, it had a very rustic charm. Although charming, there were many issues with gaps in the siding with many places for air (and spiders) to come inside. There was a lack of heat source other than portable heaters to keep it warm when needed.

After a major storm destroyed our Breakwall in 2019, we almost lost our Beach House into the lake. It turns out Lake Erie can be as rough as living on the ocean, when the storms come in and the wind creates major 10' waves on the lake, due the shallow depth of the lake (approx 100' deep in the middle). From 2020 to 2022, we invested in a new concrete break-wall, with more than 1,000,000 lbs of concrete reinforcing our Beach House. We also installed a new kitchen once we knew the building was stable.

From 2022 to 2024 we continued to work on improving the new interior layout and moving rooms around to optimize the layout of our cottage. We also redid the plumbing of the entire structure.

In December 2024 during our annual goal setting process for 2025, we decided to significantly improve the interior of our Beach House to extend the usable time we could enjoy it during the Spring and Fall when the seasons get cooler. This goal included:

- Insulating the entire interior - Shiplap the entire interior with pre-primed 1 x 8" pine

- Finish the complete wiring upgrade started in 2024

- Install a gas Fireplace

- Install a kitchen back-splash

- Install a shower base and tile and plumb the shower

- Paint the entire interior space

- Prep the exterior wood siding for painting and repaint it

Kathy and I, while fully retired now, have been working long days for much of our summer working on this renovation project. We are thrilled with the way it is turning out.

We've been so busy with this project which is also the reason I didn't issue a newsletter on August 1st.

I estimate we are now 70% complete on achieving this major goal, with at least 2 more months of the fall season to complete this goal, before the winter season arrives.

The Power of the Final Push: Why Deadlines Spark Massive Progress

Think about how many people cram an entire semester's worth of studying into the night before an exam—suddenly, focus sharpens, distractions vanish, and productivity soars. The same goes for your 2025 goals: as the year-end deadline looms closer, it becomes a powerful motivator to accomplish what seemed impossible earlier. I've seen it in my own life —projects that lingered for months get wrapped up in weeks when the pressure feels real. This isn't procrastination; it's human nature harnessing urgency for breakthroughs. Take a marathon runner: the first miles build endurance, but it's the last stretch where they dig deep and sprint to the finish, often shaving off significant time. Apply this to your goals by breaking them into bite-sized tasks now. Recommended topics to explore and remind yourself there's still time: Revisit your top three unfinished goals and set mini-deadlines; track small wins daily to build momentum; or journal about past "last-minute miracles" in your life to boost confidence. With consistent effort, you'll be amazed at how much ground you cover before December 31st. Don't wait—start today and watch your progress explode!

Strategies to Reclaim Your Time and Finish Strong

Just like a rocket that burns most of its fuel in the final ascent to break free of gravity, many of us achieve the bulk of our goals when the end is in sight. Why? Because awareness of limited time eliminates excuses and sharpens priorities. I've heard stories of people who, in the last quarter of the year, launched businesses, hit fitness milestones, or mended relationships that had stalled—all because they treated the remaining months like a high-stakes sprint. To harness this, create a "Finish Strong Plan": List out barriers holding you back and brainstorm quick fixes, then schedule dedicated goal time each week. Analogies abound—consider how artists often complete masterpieces in frenzied bursts as exhibition dates approach, turning vague ideas into polished works. Recommended topics for inspiration: Dive into time-blocking techniques to carve out hours for your goals; reflect on how seasonal changes (like fall's crisp energy) can fuel renewed focus; or connect with a accountability buddy to share progress. Remember, it's not about perfection; it's about persistent action. You've already invested eight months—make the next four count and cross that finish line with pride!

3 Commits Per Day

Picture a sculptor chiseling just three precise strikes daily—over time, a masterpiece takes shape. OF ALL THESE GOAL SETTING TIPS, THIS WILL HELP YOU ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS. Committing to just 2 or 3 key tasks each day ensures you get the important things done, not just the urgent. It’s about continually progressing toward worthwhile goals, like a ship steering toward a distant shore by focusing on a few critical navigational points. Each morning, decide the 2 or 3 most impactful tasks that will move you closer to your 2025 goals—maybe writing a chapter, running a mile, or calling a loved one. Without this focus, your day can drift, pulled by distractions or less meaningful tasks. Like a chef perfecting a dish with just a few choice ingredients, prioritizing these tasks sharpens your focus and builds momentum. To master this, explore time management books for strategies on prioritization, or try time-blocking to dedicate quality hours to what matters most.

Management of your time is key to conquering your 100 goals. Jot down your daily commits in a notebook or share them for accountability. Find an app that will help you do this. I've used "Commit to 3" app in the past and found it helpful. With four months left, these small, deliberate steps will catapult you toward success by year’s end.
