QUOTE OF THE DAY

“If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.” – Henry David Thoreau

Life Goal 86 - Experience all life has to offer

During this COVID-19 time, its important to reflect back on your life and ask some important questions:

1 - Are you happy with your life? (and your life experiences)

2 - Are you headed on the right path so that you will be happy?

3 - Are you experiencing life to the maximum extent possible?

REASON FOR THIS GOAL:

There are literally hundreds and thousands of different things to experience life that one could enjoy in a lifetime. One of the dangers of being too rigid on goal achievement is missing out on other opportunities to experience things that aren’t stated goals.

This goal is written so that in developing your lifestyle, you know it’s okay to be spontaneous and open to other opportunities that present themselves. A favourite quote I read, by my early mentor, Jim Rohn, says that you should SAY YES TO EVERY NEW EXPERIENCE that comes your way. In other words, experience life.

Although we are living in difficult times, you can be preparing yourself to live a life of experiences. Try as many new outdoor things as you can.

Work your life plan and your goal setting now so that once COVID-19 is behind you, you will be ready to experience the life you desire and deserve.

How to experience life during COVID!

Examples of times to be spontaneous and say yes to new experiences on a regular basis:

- Your son or daughter asks you to go with them to play outside, go on a hike or play a new game

- One of your friends asks you to go to an event (COVID friendly) that you would normally say no to

- You receive a lunch invitation from someone in your family or a friend (in your bubble) to try out a new restaurant, on the patio

- You see an advertisement in your local newspaper for a community event that interests you (practice social distancing)

- Someone asks you to go golfing and you've only golfed a few times before

- An experience comes your way that is something you haven’t done before but peaks your curiosity in some way

The key is not to get so caught up in yourself that you’re not open to trying new things and broadening your life experience. Avoid falling into a rut.

Things to try and how to experience life!

There are likely hundreds of things that you've never tried or experienced before which could lead into a future hobby or passion of yours.

Our drastically modified vacation plan

My wife Kathy and I had planned an amazing trip to Portugal. We are suppose to be there right now.

We had to come up with a revised vacation plan for the 2 week vacation we booked last year. Since travelling out of country is out of the question, we have been adding to our life experiences, locally:

- Over night get away to northern Ontario to a golf resort after a great BBQ lunch with friends renting their own cottage

- Two day get away to one of the top Spa's in Canada about 2 1/2 hours away

- Time at our cottage, binge watching "Brothers and Sisters"

- Tesla driving adventure and dream building checking out some lake front real estate

- Picnic at a lakeside park in one of the prettiest towns in Canada, Niagara On The Lake preceded by a beautiful stroll through town

- Patio lunch with our two daughters at a fabulous lake side restaurant

While it doesn't compare to the amazing vacation we had planned in Portugal, we've still taken our 2 week vacation time and are loving it, adding some new life experiences! There will be lots of time for travel, beyond 2021 / 2022.
