Inspirational Quotes on Travel

Here are six inspiring quotes from well-known travelers or figures associated with travel, each highlighting a positive benefit or aspect of exploring the world:

MARK TWAIN - “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.”

Benefit: Travel broadens perspectives and fosters open-mindedness by exposing us to diverse cultures.

ANTHONY BOURDAIN - “Travel changes you. As you move through this life and this world, you change things slightly, you leave marks behind, however small. And in return, life—and travel—leaves marks on you.”

Benefit: Travel transforms personal growth, leaving lasting impressions that shape who you are.

PICO IYER - “Travel is not really about leaving our homes, but leaving our habits.”

Benefit: Travel encourages breaking free from routine, sparking creativity and self-discovery.

IBN BATTUTA - “Traveling—it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.”

Benefit: Travel inspires storytelling, enriching your ability to connect with others through shared experiences.

MAYA ANGELOU - “Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends.”

Benefit: Travel builds empathy and human connection, fostering understanding across differences.

RICK STEEVES - “Travel is rich with learning opportunities, and the ultimate souvenir is a broader perspective.”

Benefit: Travel is a powerful teacher, offering lessons that expand your worldview.

40 years ago . . .

One of my main hobbies is playing music, specifically playing bass guitar in a band. As a bold and daring move, one of my former high school band mates decided it would be a good idea to play a reunion gig with high school musicians who hadn't played together for over 40 years. We were a fairly popular band back in my teenage years, having played numerous bars, restaurants, hayrides. We even toured out to Newfoundland for a one month tour, performing in 4 different towns for one week at a time. To think that six young men (under the age of 19), travelled more than two thousand kilometres from home, without mobile phones or the internet, was quite the bold move! Our band name was "Cartune".

While two of us from this former band still live locally and perform together occasionally, one lives in the United States and the other hasn't played with other band members since high school. Together, haven't played together since high school!

We picked a date at a local bar / restaurant that features local music regularly. We advertised our upcoming gig about 6 months prior to the gig on Facebook and word of mouth. We each practiced by listening to the music and using YouTube and other means to learn our parts. We had two 3 hour rehearsals with all of us together. On September 20th, we performed 3 one hour sets (more than 30 songs total), most of which I haven't performed or practiced since the early 1980's. It turned out to be an incredible night, with about 200 of our friends, family and long lost fans of the band who showed up to cheer us on. It will go down as a top milestone / night of my life!

At the start of 2025, the idea that we would perform together wasn't even on my radar. A good friend of mine circulated some old Cartune memorabilia about the band . . . that got us thinking about this possibility. Thanks Paul!

Much of the evening was video'd and has since been published to YouTube. Recorded and preserved for future generations to watch!

Not all good things that happen in your life will be attributed to a goal which you've written down. And that is a good thing.

Funding your travel goals

For many, the freedom to travel the world is a powerful motivator for building financial wealth. The joy of exploring new horizons, immersing yourself in unique experiences, and creating lifelong memories is one of life’s greatest rewards for hard work and financial discipline.

Many of the travel goals outlined in our 100goalsclub.com list intertwine beautifully. For example, attending a vibrant cultural festival could lead you to a bustling entertainment city while checking off a destination on your global bucket list—all in a single, unforgettable trip!

When my family sat down to map out these goals, we calculated that someone in their 20s or 30s could realistically aim to achieve one of these travel goals every 4-5 years. This pace feels achievable, especially if travel is a priority and you’re steadily working toward financial stability. However, we also recognized that these adventures require careful planning and sufficient funds. Travel should enhance your life, not strain it, so always ensure your trips align with your financial reality. Avoid funding travel with credit card debt you can’t immediately clear—financial freedom is the key to sustainable exploration.

Whether you choose budget-friendly adventures or luxurious getaways, timing is everything. Some goals, like visiting a Wonder of the World or taking a cruise, may require years or even decades of saving and planning. That’s okay—patience makes the journey sweeter.

To set yourself up for success, explore our 10 financial life goals at 100goalsclub.com. These strategies will help you build the resources to travel confidently, whether you’re chasing a staycation or a global odyssey.

Make these goals your own! Use the 100 Goals Club Worksheet you received upon signing up to craft your personalized travel aspirations. Start dreaming, planning, and saving today—your next adventure is waiting!

Crafting your travel adventures

The world is a vast, vibrant canvas brimming with endless possibilities for exploration. Gather your partner, family, or friends and dream up a travel plan that excites you. Let your imagination run wild as you map out your future journeys, blending spontaneity with intention. Below are some creative and inspiring ideas to spark your travel planning. Adopt, tweak, or reinvent them to fit your unique vision at 100goalsclub.com!

Reconnect with Loved Ones Across the Globe You likely have family, friends, or acquaintances scattered across your country or the world. Plan a trip to visit their hometowns or cities. Most people love playing tour guide, sharing their favorite local spots and hidden gems. Keep a running list of contacts in far-off places—new friends from past travels, colleagues, or distant relatives—and stay connected. Drop them a note when you’re planning a visit their way, turning your trip into a meaningful reunion and a chance to see a destination through a local’s eyes.

Spin the Globe for a Surprise Adventure Ever dreamed of leaving your next destination to fate? Try a playful twist on travel planning: spin a globe, toss a dart at a map, or use a random destination generator online. Wherever it lands—be it a nearby town or a far-flung country—commit to exploring it! This whimsical approach adds an element of surprise and pushes you to discover places you might never have considered.

Turn Board Games into Travel Blueprints Transform a classic game into a travel inspiration tool! Years ago, my family picked up Canadaopoly, a country-specific version of Monopoly, and used its board to plan two epic road trips across Canada, visiting every iconic location featured. It was a fun, structured way to explore our homeland. Look for versions of Monopoly tailored to your country or even Worldopoly for global inspiration. No game for your region? Create your own by mapping out must-see spots and turning them into a personalized travel challenge.

Craft a Themed Travel Quest Add a layer of purpose to your journeys by designing a themed travel goal. For example, chase culinary adventures by visiting cities renowned for specific dishes, like ramen in Tokyo or pasta in Bologna. Or, follow a historical thread, exploring ancient ruins or battlefields across continents. A themed quest gives your travels focus and turns each trip into a chapter of a larger story.

Build a Travel Vision Board Get creative with your planning by making a travel vision board—either physical or digital. Collect images, quotes, and ideas that capture the essence of your dream destinations. Whether it’s the serene beaches of Bali, the bustling markets of Marrakech, or the northern lights in Iceland, a vision board keeps your goals vivid and motivating. Share it with your travel companions to align your dreams and make planning a collaborative adventure.

Choose your "Bucket List" of Major Cities About 20 years ago, I was in a local craft store, where I made an impulse purchase of a stamp, in which the top cities in the world were listed, with unique colored fonts. It was an expensive stamp, costing approx $ 20 if I remember correctly.

Although we joke about it, we’ve made it a mission (and a bit of a game) to visit all of the locations on this stamp. The stamp locations are as follows:

*Rome, *Paris, *London, *New York, *Amsterdam, *Tokyo, Cairo, *Chicago, *Boston, *Hong Kong, *Los Angeles, *Athens, Prague, Venice, *Madrid, Dublin, *Barcelona, Washington DC, Seattle, *Miami, Rio De Janeiro, *San Francisco, Munich, Sydney, *Maui, *Moscow, Vienna, Jerusalem, *Honolulu, Florence, *Montreal

At the time of this writing, the asterisked items are all the places that we’ve traveled so far from this stamp. Australia (Sydney) has been on our dream vacation list for many years, and it is a place we will likely go to celebrate a milestone anniversary. Within the next 12 months, we will be checking off Venice and Florence from this list!
